Bainbridge Island's senior softball team,The Islanders, begins to wind down their season with a final game against Bremerton Friday the 25th. This will be this seasons fourth meeting of the two rivals with Bainbridge winning both of their home games and losing at Bremerton in early August. The teams have been well matched this year with several of the games being decided in the last inning. Bainbridge is coming off a loss to Sequim at home last week in which the visitors took advantage of the short fences and belted eight homeruns out of the park.
The Bainbridge team sponsored by the B.I. Senior Center is for players, men and women 50 years and up. While the team does have a few kids in their 50's the average age is mid 60's with several players well into their 70's and a couple of octogenarians come out regularly. If you think this group is a bunch of old toddlers who aren't in good enough shape for the Tai Chi class then think again. They practice three times a week and work hard to improve their hitting and defensive skills and while they have a good time; they take it very seriously.
Best of luck to them on Friday. Ed
