Bainbridge Island Historic Tidbits

Posted on July 30, 2010
The Blossom family's roots delve deep in Bainbridge; their family has been associated with many Island institutions. The visionary Lynwood Center, which received its name from a contest submission that paid homage to the area's Linden Trees, was developed by direct relatives of the Blossoms. And the Blossom family also owned the Timber Lodge on South Beach that doubled as an informal bowling area in the 1970s, given people were willing to set up their own pins. The family's original home, a stylish Tudor manor set amongst 15 acres of forest, has since been repurposed into Edna's restaurant. And another mixed use complex, to be named Blossom Hill, is planned on the remaining original acreage.

New Bainbridge Bakery - Pane d’Amore Artisian Bakery

Pane d'Amore Artisian Bakery has opened its doors between the Treehouse Café and Lynwood Theater. This highly anticipated bakery offers an extensive selection of breads made daily alongside broad assortments of wine and local cheeses, flours, and hard cider. Additionally, they offer condiments from around the world and Busy Bee Farm eggs delivered by bicycle. And while this world class bakery does offer imported delicacies, their emphasis is on local products; such as, greens from Tani Creek Farm (a nearby biodynamic farm), butter and milk from Golden Glen Creamery (near Bow), and Mt. Townsend Creamery cheeses (Port Townsend). Because of this, they are quickly becoming, as their slogan proclaims, "the heart of a community." Visit http:/panedamore.com for a daily Bake Schedule

Bloedel Reserve on Bainbridge Island

Posted on July 30, 2010
DID YOU KNOW? The Bloedel Reserve no longer requires reservations and they've added casual outdoor shows to be held in the Meadow by the barns. Because sheep were once kept in that area, they've dubbed their new performances the "Sheep Shed Shows." This month's offerings include Jamie Lavel, a premier Celtic violinist and US National Scottish Fiddle Champion, and Eric Ode, musician, poet, and children's entertainer. Because these are outdoor events, guests should bring seating and wear appropriate outdoor garb

Summer Hours: Wednesday-Saturday 10am-7pm , Sundays 10am-4pm

This family friendly event will offer games and music for kids followed by The Randy Oxford Band with food and drinks available from local restaurants. Admission will be $20 per adult with children under 18 admitted free. The Open Water Relay will be held Aug. 14 from 5:00 am-7:00 pm. Registration for this swim, which will completely circumnavigate Bainbridge Island and be for experienced open water swimmers, will be $100. The Pool Relay will be held Aug. 15 from 11:00 am - 2:00 pm. This relay will symbolize a virtual 30-mile swim from Blakely Harbor through Rich Passage to Point White Dock to Manzanita Bay through Agate Pass to Fay Bainbridge and back to Blakely Harbor. Six pool lanes will each represent a segment of the relay with up to five swimmers per lane. Registration will be $25.00 per 30-minutes of pool time per swimmer and swimmers may register for up to six 30-minute slots (three hours).
